Europol Dismantles Major Crypto Mixing Service Used to Launder $1.51 Billion
Europol, in collaboration with German and Swiss authorities, has dismantled one of Europe's largest cryptocurrency mixing services. The platform, operational since 2016, was allegedly used to launder proceeds from drug trafficking, weapons sales, online fraud, and cybercrimes.
The service pooled and redistributed funds through complex processes, breaking blockchain traceability. Its high anonymity attracted ransomware groups, dark-web marketplaces, and transnational cybercrime organizations.
Servers and domains centered in Zurich were seized in the operation, codenamed and led by Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office and Zurich police.
